Your Kua number is calculated from your birth year and your sex. It places you in the East or West group and shows which directions in your home or office support you best — a simple way to bring your living space into harmony with your own energy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How is the Kua number calculated?
Add the digits of your birth year and reduce them to a single digit. For men born before 2000, subtract that digit from 10 (from 9 if born in 2000 or later); for women born before 2000, add 5 (add 6 if born in 2000 or later) and reduce again. Kua 5 does not exist: it becomes 2 for men and 8 for women.
I was born in January or early February. Which year should I use?
Feng Shui follows the Chinese solar calendar, whose year begins around February 4. If you were born before that date, use the previous year — for example, someone born on 20 January 1990 uses 1989.
What is the difference between the East and West groups?
Kua numbers 1, 3, 4 and 9 belong to the East group, whose favourable directions are North, South, East and Southeast. Kua numbers 2, 6, 7 and 8 belong to the West group, whose favourable directions are West, Northwest, Northeast and Southwest.
How can I use my favourable directions at home?
Small changes are enough: face one of your favourable directions while you work at your desk, sleep with the top of your head pointing toward one of them, or choose a favourable seat at the dinner table. Feng Shui supports your intention; it does not replace your own choices and effort.
